Current and prospective small business owners in the Shuswap are invited to attend a free, two-day workshop for anyone interested in selling or buying an establishment.
Futurpreneur Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ a non-profit supported by the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP) and the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation (JEDI) Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ is bringing the Owners Wanted program to Salmon Arm to help potential business sellers and buyers connect, and help coordinate the transition. If there are any owners already connected in a potential sale, both parties are invited to attend to learn the skills needed to complete the transaction.
Over the course of the program it will help people find a viable business that interests them, approach and appeal to the business owner, put a deal together, practice negotiation and due diligence, close the deal in mock negotiation, and structure and obtain the necessary funding.
In a media release about the program, Futurpreneur said 76 per cent of Canadian business owners are planning on selling over the next 10 years, but 54 per cent say their biggest challenge is finding the right buyer. Since starting in 1996, the organization has supported thousands of business owners and startups find success by providing the resources, mentorship and funding needed to get started.
The two-day workshop will take place at the Prestige Harbourfront Resort in Salmo Arm on Wednesday, May 21 and Thursday, May 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. both days, with dinner provided. Though free, registration is required and can be found .
