A moose swimming on Shuswap Lake made quite a splash in Blind Bay where resident Jane O'Connor got a video that already has over 6,000 views on Facebook.

Not a Sica-moose, this swimmer popped up in Blind Bay on a morning dip in Shuswap Lake.

On Thursday morning, July 17, Blind Bay resident Jane O'Connor caught a rare sighting of a moose swimming towards Sorrento.

"We spotted her out in the water," she said. "It was quite the sight."

It was an originally misidentified sight as a friend who was visiting asked what was out in the water, thinking it was a bird because it's twitching ears at first looked like flapping wings. After taking a closer look, O'Connor realized what they were actually watching, and grabbed her phone to take some videos.

"I've seen moose up pretty close in Alberta," she said. "But never here, and never in the water."

Wanting to share the rare sight, O'Connor went to the neighbour's place to get their kids out to see the moose just out for a casual swim.

"Everybody was just amazed," she said.

O'Connor posted the cute video to the Shuswap Everything Friendly Goes page on Facebook, and quickly got over 6,000 views and a number of amazed, appreciative and cute comments.

Heather Garofano joked that "he knows it's a no wake zone," while Byr Son estimated it had "1.35 horsepower."

While the moose left no wake, it was still motoring along quickly, leaving O'Connor grateful to have witnessed its morning aquafit session.
