The room was full of inspiring women Wednesday, May 28, at the Prestige Vernon Lodge as The Morning Star paid tribute to the Business Women in the North Okanagan with a special evening.
The event was held in conjunction with the media outlet's release of its 2025 Business Women in the North Okanagan supplement, which was included in the May 29 newspaper.
"Tonight is a celebration of women empowering women. Whether in boardrooms, storefronts, newsrooms, or at kitchen tables, we are building a future where support, collaboration, and community are our foundation," said Morning Star publisher Stephanie Stecyk. "When women lift each other up, there's no limit to what we can achieve Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥” not just as individuals, but as a united force."
The keynote speaker for the evening was Estelle Shook, artistic director of Spallumcheen's Caravan Farm Theatre, who brought a quartet of women from the theatre to the event. Including Jan Kubelka, who provided the entertainment, performing a one-woman skit as a CEO of a company, and channeling her inner Linda Perry Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ former lead singer of the group 4 Non Blondes Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ when she sang the Blondes' biggest hit, What's Up?
"A special thank you to Estelle and the Caravan Theatre team for their incredible performance this evening," said Stecyk. "The talent, creativity, and passion you bring to the stage is absolutely remarkable. Estelle, your words tonight reminded us all of the strength, courage, and brilliance that women carry Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥” and how unstoppable we are when we stand together."
Stecyk also praised the room for supporting local journalism.
"Your support ensures that important stories Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥” stories about women, about our community, about our progress Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥” are told with integrity, depth, and heart," she said, to the delight of editor Jennifer Smith.
