With a vehicle crash leaving her unable to fulfill her duties, Zarah Tinholt knew the event was still in good hands.
Tinholt was the original Vernon Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary's adult coordinator/supervisor of the Mother's Day brunch at the Vernon Recreation Complex that was being run by teens for youth mental health.
Just two weeks before the big day, Tinholt was in a life-altering collision in which she suffered a severe concussion and was bound to a wheelchair.
Unable to complete any of her work for the Mother's Day Gala fundraiser, the auxiliary's youth chairperson Ellie Cucheran took control.
"She is a volunteer teenager who willingly and consistently offered and took on all of my duties," said Tinholt. "She did a phenomenal job with everything, from reaching out to businesses for sponsorship, working with multiple high schools to organizer entertainers, planning the entire program, working on guest lists, running public relations and so much more.
"She is a superhero."
Tinholt said there was "absolutely no way the event could have been a success, let along take place," if not for the heroic efforts of Cucheran.
"She more than earned her title of Gala chair," said Tinholt.
Cucheran also served as the event's emcee. She welcomed the large crowd at 10:15 a.m., and introduced various dancing, singing, and performing acts Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ all from local youth Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ over the next two hours.
All proceeds from the Gala's ticket sales go toward youth mental health.
