Ariana Grande sends message of hope on anniversary of Manchester bombing

Salman Abedi, a 22-year-old Briton of Libyan descent, blew himself up as fans were leaving Grande香蕉视频直播檚 concert at Manchester Arena on May 22, 2017. Twenty-two concertgoers were killed, and police say more than 800 people were left 香蕉视频直播渨ith physical and deep psychological injuries.香蕉视频直播

Across Manchester, a 19th-century industrial powerhouse turned diverse and creative modern city, residents made defiant statements of unity in the face of extremist violence.

Some laid bouquets of flowers in St. Ann香蕉视频直播檚 Square others left hand-written notes on Japanese maples that have been planted to form a 香蕉视频直播淭rees of Hope香蕉视频直播 trail through the city. One note cited U.S. Episcopal bishop Michael Curry香蕉视频直播檚 sermon at Saturday香蕉视频直播檚 royal wedding: 香蕉视频直播淎s a clever bishop said 香蕉视频直播榯here is power in love.香蕉视频直播澫憬妒悠抵辈

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said it was a day to 香蕉视频直播渃ome together.香蕉视频直播

Thousands of people paused outside Manchester Cathedral at 2:30 p.m. for a minute of silence that was observed across the country 香蕉视频直播 including in Parliament, where lawmakers paused their debates and fell still.

Prince William and Prime Minister Theresa May joined survivors and emergency workers who responded to the attack for a remembrance service at the cathedral.

A choir sang 香蕉视频直播淎mazing Grace香蕉视频直播 and 香蕉视频直播淪omewhere Over the Rainbow,香蕉视频直播 and Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Muslim and humanist leaders all addressed the congregation.

On the altar stood 22 lit candles, made from the wax of thousands of candles left in the city香蕉视频直播檚 St. Ann香蕉视频直播檚 Square in the days after the attack.

William read a passage from the Bible香蕉视频直播檚 book of Corinthians, ending: 香蕉视频直播淔aith, hope and love abide, these three but the greatest of these is love.香蕉视频直播

Robby Potter, who was hit by shrapnel as he waited to pick his daughter up from the concert, said he felt he had to come to the service 香蕉视频直播渢o support the families who have lost people.香蕉视频直播

Later, thousands of people 香蕉视频直播 including a choir of survivors 香蕉视频直播 are due to gather for a concert and sing-song in St. Ann香蕉视频直播檚 Square. The event will include renditions of Grande香蕉视频直播檚 香蕉视频直播淥ne Last Time香蕉视频直播 and 香蕉视频直播淟ook Back In Anger香蕉视频直播 by Oasis, which became an unofficial anthem of Manchester after the bombing.

Bells on the city hall and churches will ring out at 10:31 p.m., a year since the bomb exploded.

Police say 100 investigators are still working on the case. The U.K. has issued an arrest warrant for Abedi香蕉视频直播檚 younger brother, Hashem Abedi, and is seeking his extradition from Libya 香蕉视频直播 a far-from-straightforward process given that country香蕉视频直播檚 political chaos.
