UPDATE: Evacuation orders and alerts for Izman Creek Wildfire north of Lytton

The wildfire has swelled to over 25 hectares in size and remains highly active

The Izman Creek north of Lytton has closed Highway 12 and forced several homes to evacuate.

UPDATE 10:00 p.m.: 

Three properties have been ordered to evacuate and nine more are on alert due to the Izman Creek Wildfire north of Lytton. 

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District issued the order to evacuate for 3965, 4275 and 4461 Lytton-Lillooet Hwy 12 shortly after 8 p.m.

The properties at 5700 Laluwissin Creek Forest Service Road and 3849, 5245, 5565, 5645, 5685, 5989, 5997 and 5999 Lytton-Lillooet Hwy 12 are all currently on evacuation alert. 

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire is showing Rank 2 and Rank 3 fire behaviour which means visible, open flame, infrequent candling, and a slow to moderate rate of spread. 

BC Wildfire Service has two initial attack teams on site working to protect structures supported by two helicopters. 

The last update has the fire at an estimated 25 hectares in size. 

Residents on evacuation alert do not need to leave their homes immediately, but should prepare to do so at a moment's notice. 

Residents are also advised of the following by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District:

* Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area, should an Evacuation Order be issued while separated.
* Pack essential items for quick departure, such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g. insurance, credit, and mortgage information), and immediate care needs for dependents or pets. Pack keepsakes if time permits.
* Arrange to stay with family or friends (if possible).
* Prepare to move disabled persons, children and/ or neighbours, if assistance is needed.
* Prepare to take pets with you and move large animals and livestock to a safe area (if possible).
* If you are a livestock producer, ensure that you have your Premise ID in the event that you require support if an Evacuation Order is issued.
* Arrange transportation for all your household members. Fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles to be used in case of an Evacuation Order.

UPDATE 6:05 p.m.:

The wildfire north of Lytton that was reported on July 1 has grown to over 10 hectares according to the most recent estimate from the BC Wildfire Service.

DriveBC is reporting that Highway 12 remains closed between Lilloett and Lytton with only local traffic currently allowed in. 

The next expected update from DriveBC is at 8 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A second wildfire has started north of Lytton on July 1 and closed off Highway 12 just before Izman Creek. 

The fire is believed to be human caused, according to the BC Wildfire Service. 

It is currently an estimated four hectares in size, and still considered out of control, which means under current conditions it will continue to expand. 

According to DriveBC, Highway 12 was closed just before 4:45 p.m. in both directions due to the wildfire. The Highway is closed between Lilloett and Lytton.

There are not currently any evacuation alerts or orders due to the fire.
