The B.C. River Forecast Centre has issued a flood watch for the middle Fraser/ Chilcotin region tributaries draining from the Coast Mountains, east of Lillooet and Williams Lake and for the Homathko River in the West Chilcotin.
A low-pressure system is expected to bring precipitation from Alberta across the B.C. Interior through to Sunday.
Rivers are expected to rise rapidly in the eastern Coast Mountains, with the heaviest rainfall on Friday and Saturday expected to lead to high flows later Friday through into Sunday.
The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship said a flood watch means that river levels are rising and will approach or may exceed the bankfull, which in the context of a river or stream, refers to the water level at which the channel is full, and any further increase in water volume will cause it to spill over into the adjacent floodplain.
Environment Canada and Climate Change says there is a risk of a thunderstorm for the West Chilcotin Friday, June 20.
