This fall, Kelowna residents are encouraged to get involved in community-building through two city-supported programs.
Block Connectors and Neighbourhood Grants are about creating stronger, more connected communities, according to a city media release.
A Block Connector is someone who helps neighbours on their block, or apartment floor, get to know each other. That could mean organizing a casual coffee meet-up, a games night, or simply introducing neighbours who香蕉视频直播檝e never had a chance to talk.
No experience is needed, just a willingness to help build connections. The city provides resources, ideas and ongoing support.
Those with project or event idea that bring neighbours together, the Neighbourhood Grant program may be able to help cover the cost.
With support from the Central Okanagan Foundation, residents can apply for up to $1,500 in matching funds to help with a community initiative. Projects must be inclusive, locally driven and encourage neighbourhood interaction.
Past ideas have included:
- Block parties
- Porch concerts
- Community gardens
- Neighbourhood clean-up or beautification projects
- Scavenger hunts
- Talent shows or paint nights
Applications for fall grants are now open until Aug. 25, and projects must be completed between October and December.
