Lake Country council has approved a development permit for the first two phases of a large new residential project along Bottom Wood Lake and Beaver Lake roads.
At its May 6 meeting, council gave the green light for three buildings and an amenity space at 9751 and 9819 Bottom Wood Lake Rd., where developer Westpoint Projects plans to eventually build up to 560 housing units. The buildings will range from five to six storeys, with both underground and surface parking.
The development will also bring improvements to local infrastructure, including upgraded crossings along the Okanagan Rail Trail and a redesigned intersection at Beaver Lake and Bottom Wood Lake roads. Several parks and open green spaces are also in the works for the area.
Five of the parcels slated for development currently lie within the City of Kelowna. However, a boundary adjustment is underway to bring them under Lake CountryÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s jurisdiction.
In 2024, Lake Country used the Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to gauge public support for the boundary change. With only one elector response submitted by the April 22, 2025, deadlineÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥”far fewer than the 1,412 needed to halt the process. Council certified the results at its May 6 meeting.
The final step involves the City of Kelowna formally asking the Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs to waive its own public approval requirement. If granted, the ministry can then recommend the boundary extension to the provincial cabinet for final approval.
