The District of Peachland says more land is needed to build its protective services building, according to a July 24 media release.
Mayor Patrick Van Minsel said the two properties already acquired for the project are not enough to accommodate the planned facility.
香蕉视频直播淭he district is in communication with the Peachland Baptist Church to discuss purchasing its 4204 Lake Avenue property with an option that would fully support Peachland Baptist Church by professionally relocating its building to a nearby site within the same neighbourhood,香蕉视频直播 Van Minsel said.
In 2022, Peachland residents approved borrowing up to $17.5 million for the project, which will house the firehall, BC Ambulance Service and Citizens on Patrol. The current building on Third Street is outdated, no longer meets health and safety regulations, and cannot keep up with increasing service demands.
Since the referendum, the district has purchased property at 4223 San Clemente Avenue next to a municipally owned parcel at San Clemente Avenue and 13th Street. The new location will improve emergency response times and better support regional operations.
香蕉视频直播淐ouncil wholeheartedly believes that a mutually beneficial solution will be achieved and has directed the district to support the relocation of the Peachland Baptist Church, a deeply valued institution that has been part of the community for over 100 years,香蕉视频直播 the mayor added.
According to the release, the district香蕉视频直播檚 consultants have noted that the rising cost of commercial construction, driven by market volatility and inflation, has made it necessary to explore alternative project delivery methods.
One option under consideration is a Public-Private Partnership (P3), which would help manage costs while maximizing the use of the expanded site.
The district says the church property offers the space and strategic location needed to make the protective services building viable for decades to come.
An estimated cost of purchasing the property and moving the church to a new location was not provided in the media release.
