Health officials say swimming in water with high E. coli levels can lead to several health issues

Reiswig Regional Park is Lake Country is under a swim advisory.

A swim advisory is in effect at Reiswig Regional Park and Beasley Park in Lake Country after water tests showed elevated levels of E. coli.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) made the announcement following a recommendation from Interior Health. Signs are posted at the park, and residents are urged to stay out of the water until further notice.

Health officials say swimming in water with high E. coli levels can lead to several health issues such as upset stomachs to rashes and eye, ear, and throat infections. Young children, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system are at higher risk.

Water quality at beaches often changes due to runoff, nearby creeks, animal waste, and warmer summer temperatures, which encourage bacterial growth, according to an RDCO media release.
