A woman suffered serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries after being struck on her bicycle in downtown Vernon Wednesday, July 16.

The incident happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of 30th Street, a half-block from the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP detachment.

"Officers responded to a collision between a pick-up truck and a cyclist," said Vernon North Okanagan Cpl. Tania Finn with RCMP media relations. "The truck loaded with a camper was making a right-hand turn from 30th Street into the parking lot of a business when it struck a woman who was riding a bicycle southbound in the bike lane."

The woman was thrown from her bicycle. She was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital by BC Ambulance.

The driver of the truck remained on-scene and was cooperative with police. No criminality is suspected.

The road between 35th and 37th Avenues was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation.
