100 Mile House RCMP are investigating after a Chevrolet pickup truck was seen driving erratically through town on Aug. 9, including along the sidewalks of Birch Avenue.

Sgt. Brian Lamb said that the RCMP received numerous reports about the truck, described as a green single-cab Chevrolet pickup, on Saturday, with different callers reporting it driving erratically along Exeter Station Road and on Birch Avenue's sidewalk. Lamb noted that the two occupants of the vehicle were also allegedly drinking alcohol from open containers, according to reports.

"Police made patrols and located the suspected vehicle, which did not stop and fled at a high rate of speed. Police did not pursue due to the safety risk to the general public," Lamb said. "Police subsequently located a grass fire on Gustafsen Forest Service Road that had ignited as a result of the vehicle going off-road."

Lamb said that after the grass fire was extinguished, officers conducted further patrols searching for the vehicle. Following information from the public, the truck was ultimately located on Helena Lake Road. The vehicle was impounded, and Lamb said the investigation into this incident is ongoing. This call was one of 107 the RCMP responded to last week.

Items stolen from wildfire lookout

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, RCMP received a report of theft of equipment from a Cariboo wildfire lookout area located along Highway 97 south of 100 Mile House.  Lamb said the items taken included a cell modem, transceiver and SIM card. The theft is believed to have occurred on July 24.

Window smashed in 108

Also on Tuesday, RCMP responded to a report of mischief to a residence located on the 5000 block of Chintu Drive in the 108 Mile Ranch. While a window of the residence was smashed, Lamb said that no entry to the residence was gained. It is believed this incident occurred sometime over the previous weekend.

Shoplifter arrested

On Friday, Aug. 8, Lamb said an incident of shoplifting was reported to the RCMP.

The theft occurred at a business on Alder Avenue, with police who attended learning a woman had attempted to leave the store with unpaid items. After locating the alleged shoplifter, RCMP arrested her for theft.

Lamb said she has been released to attend court at a later date.

Vehicle stop leads to drug seizure

The Cariboo Chilcotin Crime Reduction Unit and 100 Mile House RCMP conducted a vehicle stop on Cedar Avenue on Aug. 8, 2025.

Lamb said that the stop came after an investigation and led to the arrest of an adult female for drug offences. Following her arrest, the vehicle was then searched by police.

"Approximately 115 grams of suspected cocaine, 327 ml of suspected GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutrate), five grams of suspected fentanyl, 164 grams of suspected methamphetamine, various prescription medication, and a large sum of cash were located and seized," Lamb said.

Police then subsequently conducted a search warrant at a residence on Cedar Avenue, where a firearm suppressor was located and seized. Lamb noted that RCMP have also seized the vehicle driven by the female "as part of consideration for civil forfeiture."

Lamb said that the female has been released and that charges related to weapon and drug offences are anticipated.

Intoxicated driver starts campfire

Over the weekend, on Saturday, Aug. 9, RCMP received a request for assistance from 100 Mile Fire Rescue.

Lamb said the request for assistance was related to a campfire and intoxicated people on Wrangler Way. Officers attended and, on arrival, located a vehicle that was believed to be associated with starting the fire.

"Police spoke with the driver of the vehicle and observed symptoms of alcohol consumption," Lamb said. "A breath test was conducted using an approved screening device, where the driver failed to provide a suitable sample for analysis."

The vehicle was impounded, and its driver was given an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for the next 90 days. 100 Mile Fire Rescue extinguished the fire.

Speeder caught near 93 Mile Road

On Aug. 10, BC Highway Patrol conducted speed enforcement on Highway 97 near 93 Mile Road.

Lamb said that a vehicle was witnessed travelling at a high rate of speed, which radar confirmed as 156 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone.

"The vehicle was stopped and the driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed," Lamb said. "The vehicle was impounded for seven days."
