On June 6, a tractor trailer overturned and crashed into highway barriers after speeding and overtaking another truck.

RCMP are investigating a single-vehicle incident involving a semi-truck, last Friday (June 6).

On June 6, a tractor-trailer overturned and crashed into highway barriers after speeding and overtaking another truck on a double solid line. The incident occurred near Princeton, eastbound in the 1300 block of Highway 3 near the Mine Hill area, and RCMP have determined that the crash was due to a brake issue.

"The driver reported his braking system had failed, and in order to avoid another vehicle, attempted a sharp turn, in which he couldn't straighten out," Cpl. James Grandy said. "This resulted in the semi overturning."

Const. Kelly Brett added that the mechanical failure caused the vehicle to gain speed going downhill and the driver had limited options to immobilize the vehicle.

"He passed another vehicle, also eastbound, to prevent a collision, but his vehicle rolled when he attempted to negotiate a sharp turn ahead," Brett said.

The driver sustained minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved and no criminality is suspected. The matter remains under investigation.
