Salmon Arm RCMP arrested a 72-year-old man after he allegedly attacked a 69-year-old man by Beatty Avenue NE on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

An assault charge is being sought after a 72-year-old man allegedly attacked a 69-year-old man over a broken promise to provide beer.

At 2:55 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, Salmon Arm RCMP received a witness report about two men fighting in a back alley in the area of Beatty Avenue NW.

Responding police found a 69-year-old victim bleeding from his head but otherwise uninjured.

"The victim reported he was working on his boat when a 72-year-old man exited his residence and began berating him over not returning the favour of providing beers for the two of them to drink," said RCMP media relations officer Const. Andrew Hodges in a news release. "This escalated into the 72-year-old man physically attacking the 69-year-old, then retreating back into his residence."

Police obtained a corroborating witness statement and arrested the 72 year old, who was subsequently released on conditions and given a future court date.

Hodges said one count of assault was recommended to BC Prosecution.
