Chef Jinhee Lee is the 2017 champion of Gold Medal Plates, held in Kelowna.
Representing Calgary, Lee the chef of Foreign Concept - alternative Asian dining, was paired with an Okanagan wine from the Bartier Bros. Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥” a 2014 Gewürztraminer.
LeeÏã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥™s winning dish was titled Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥˜Cha Ca La VongÏã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥™, turmeric fish mosaic with dill.
"I can't believe it, I am a little overwhelmed," said Lee. "I never thought when I became a chef this would happen."
Taking second place was OttawaÏã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥™s Joe Thottungal of Coconut Lagoon, paired with a Prince Edward County, Ont. wine Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥” Huff Estates Winery 2015 Riesling.
Eric Hanson, representing Edmonton, was given bronze. Hanson is the chef at Prairie Noodle Soup and was paired with the Okanagan's Gruner from Culmina Family Estate Winery.
