Charges are being recommended after impaired driver occupant stopped and past infractions revealed.

A report of possible faulty brakes accelerated from there after the impaired occupants tried twice to flee from police.

On May 4 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Chase RCMP responded to a report of possible impaired driver crossing on the Adams Lake Ferry, noting the blue Dodge pickup containing two occupants appeared to have faulty brakes.

Police were waiting when the truck disembarked the ferry, but it accelerated past the officers attempting to stop it, with one forced to quickly move out to the way to avoid being hit. Police later, however, located the truck on Holding Road and conducted a traffic stop.

"Both occupants jumped from the still-moving vehicle," Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg said in a media release. "The driver fled on foot but was arrested without incident after a short pursuit. The passenger, apparently too intoxicated to run, remained at the scene."

Further investigation revealed the driver did not have a valid licence and was actually prohibited from driving, while the passenger was found to be in violation of court ordered curfew conditions. Police intend to recommend charges against both.

The truck was impounded and officers noted that in addition to not having functioning brakes, the "front axle was being held together with tie-down straps."
