A hacked account is scamming people in Vernon on Facebook Marketplace, and police are warning residents to keep their wallets away from the account.

"We香蕉视频直播檙e receiving reports of a Facebook Marketplace scam involving a local account that was hacked," the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said in a post on social media Friday evening, July 4.

The RCMP posted a screenshot of a Marketplace listing by Myrika Godard, who is not the scam artist, but rather the person who was hacked and whose account is being used to run the scam.

"The individual whose name is on the profile is a victim. They are not behind the listings," police said. "Do not send money or try to purchase any of the items."

The items in the listing include luxury vehicles, a skid-steer, a watch and more than 70 other items.

Godard confirmed to The Morning Star that her account got hacked and there is a "huge scam that is happening in Vernon."

She said someone is pretending to be her and claims they have stolen up to $30,000 from people in the Vernon area as of Saturday morning.

Godard said the scam operates by tugging on people's heartstrings.

"People are paying deposits for vehicles, Rolex watches, skid steers, cambers (sic) etc. and pretending to be a cry for help for a dying uncle. It even shows a photo of a sick man," Goddard said.

"The banks are having to try to get people's money back. TD bank has been the best at finding it."

Police are urging people not to engage with Godard's hacked account.
