The Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) had its second Cawston area structure fire in a week Thursday, this time requiring the support of BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

The July 17 fire south of Cawston and north of Little Chopaka was located on private property not on Lower Similkameen Indian Band Lands near Nighthawk Road and Highway 3.

BCWS sent six personnel to assist the KVFD firefighters after the fire spread from the structure and into the nearby brush.

This is the second structure fire in the lower Similkameen that the KVFD has responded to in a week.

On July 14, the KVFD responded to a home on fire that required assistance from both the Osoyoos Fire Rescue and Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department.

That fire, which occurred after midnight, had crews on scene until after 5 a.m.
