An industrial-sized bin has been delivered to a local encampment as 100 More Homes Penticton gears up to lead a community clean-up.

An industrial-size bin is ready to be filled at a Penticton encampment of unhoused individuals for a monthly community clean-up.

100 More Homes Penticton, a non-profit group that works to address local homelessness, is inviting people to the Fairview encampment next to Ellis Creek for the event from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday (May 31).

Members of the Integrated Crisis Response Team, also known as Car 40, dropped off the bin earlier this week ahead of the clean-up.

"Come out and support our most vulnerable community members in keeping their temporary sheltering area clean," 100 More Homes said.

On a poster it created for the event, 100 More Homes Penticton said honorariums of $20 per hour would be available for unhoused participants of the clean-up.

"Residents of the encampment have been asking for an opportunity to dispose of items, and we are thankful to the province for providing this resource that was advocated for by our Lived/Living Experience Table," the non-profit group added.

The City of Penticton earlier this week embraced the planned clean-up in a social media post.

"We香蕉视频直播檙e encouraged by this momentum and thank the province for its investment and resources to clean up the site while we work on further solutions," the city said.

The camp, located adjacent to Highway 97 at the intersection with Fairview and Green Mountain Road, is under the provincial government's jurisdiction.

A recent press release stated officials from both the city and Penticton Indian Band are working with the B.C. government and local agencies to address the situation.

"The city is continuing to work with the province toward a Heart & Hearth program to provide housing options for those living in the encampment," it said on May 29.
