A woman is facing a court date after being detained by a hotel manager prior to her arrest for the alleged theft of a wallet.
At 10:40 a.m. on July 10, the local hotel manager contacted Salmon Arm RCMP to report a guest's wallet had been stolen, and they (the manager) were holding the suspect "trapped in a room."
Police attended and met with the manager, who said the suspect, a 42-year-old female, had come into the hotel and claimed to be the sister of a guest in a room, said media liaison Const. Andrew Hodges in a news release.
"The suspect entered that room, telling the guest they were a maintenance employee," continued Hodges. "The victim told police that their wallet was missing after the suspect left their room, but they didnÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™t see the suspect take it."
Police entered the room the suspect was in and arrested her for theft under $5,000. Hodges said the victimÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s wallet and all its contents were located in the room the suspect was in Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ "after the suspect informed police the wallet was behind the headboard but claimed she 'didnÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™t do it.'"
The suspect was released with a future court date, and police continue to investigate.
