A Blind Bay resident is out $9,000 after receiving a call from someone claiming to be with a computer antivirus software company.

The resident contacted local police on May 10 to report she'd been a victim of computer fraud. The woman informed police she'd been contacted by someone named "James" who claimed to be with antivirus software maker Norton.

"After some conversation, the man convinced the victim to go to the bank to withdraw $9,000 and deposit it into a Bitcoin account," said Salmon Arm RCMP media relations officer Const. Andrew Hodges in a news release.
