Speed is determined to have been a factor in a fatal, two-vehicle collision just south of Sicamous Friday evening.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on July 18, the Sicamous RCMP responded to a report of "a serious collision" in the 9400 block of Highway 97A near Swansea Point.
Responding officers determined that a northbound Harley Davidson motorbike crossed a double solid line on a winding curve in the highway and hit a southbound Nissan pickup truck. The 48-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a resulting head-on collision.
"Police obtained dash camera video from another motorist, which confirmed the motorcyclist had crossed into the path of the southbound vehicle," Sgt. Murray McNeil said in a media release. "The speed of the motorcycle prior to the collision was a factor in this fatal collision."
He added that Highway 97A is a winding, two-lane road on which the posted speed limit is 80 km/h, and traffic was heavy at the time of the crash.
There were no other injuries reported in the collision, but the highway remained closed until approximately 10 p.m.
