While perhaps no surprise, the Trans-Canada Highway continues to be the most dangerous roadway for motor vehicle collisions in Revelstoke, ICBC's latest data from 2024 shows.
Of exactly 100 crashes recorded in the city by the provincial auto insurer last year, 33 happened along Highway 1.
Victoria Road, with a speed limit of 50 kilometres per hour, came second with 24 collisions. Highway 23 and Big Eddy Road both recorded 14, while Airport Way experienced 12.
The worst individual intersection in 2024 was also on Highway 1, at its major junction with Victoria Road. Nine incidents happened here.
This was followed by seven collisions at Highways 1 and 23 on the west side of the Columbia River, while Highway 1 and Big Eddy Road tied with Victoria Road and Wright Street at four crashes.
Beyond Revelstoke's major arteries, minimal incidents occurred last year in the downtown core.
Since ICBC began sharing this data in 2020, these roadways and intersections have continued to see the most collisions, along with Highways 1 and 23 on the east side of the Columbia and the junction between Highway 1 and Townley Street.
