The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is urging drivers to be careful in intersections after another pedestrian was struck Thursday morning.
Police received a report that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle ar Alexis Park Drive and 39th Avenue around 11:45 a.m. June 19. Officers went to the scene and their investigation found the vehicle was making a right-hand turn onto Alexis Park from 39th when it struck a woman who was crossing the intersection in a crosswalk.
The pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries, RCMP media relations officer Const. Chris Terleksi said.
The driver remained at the scene and was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
These types of incidents are stacking up in the area of late, according to Terleski.
"We have seen a number of these collisions lately," he said. "Drivers, please pay extra attention at intersections, particularly when you香蕉视频直播檙e making turns."
While the driver was at fault for failing to yield to the pedestrian, Terleski urged pedestrians to also take their safety in their own hands.
"Pedestrians, although you may have the walk sign or right of way, it香蕉视频直播檚 imperative you make eye contact with drivers and be certain they see you and are stopped before you step onto the road," he said.
