The Chase Heat are warming up for the coming season with the hiring of new head coach and general manager Nick Deschenes.
In a May 27 social media post, the KIJHL team announced the new bench boss who has an extensive coaching career in both the junior league and the BCHL. Deschenes will fill the role left vacant by former coach Kyle Evans, who announced his resignation on May 4 after just one season with the Heat.
Deschenes' hiring marks his return to the Shuswap as he previously coached the Sicamous Eagles from 2021 to 2024 before spending last season behind the bench of the Kelowna Chiefs.
"I appreciate the opportunity to coach in the KIJHL once again Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥” a journey that has spanned over 13 years," he said in the post. "I look forward to integrating myself into the Chase community and contributing to the program. With all the resources and an incredible staff of volunteers already in place, I can't wait to start building."
The team is also looking forward to the new working relationship, noting his knowledge of the game and passion for player development make him a valuable addition to the organization.
"We're excited to have Nick leading the charge as we gear up for a new chapter of Chase Heat hockey."
