Okanagan golfers tee off at Tournament of Champions

Fairview Mountain Golf Club played host to the Ping Canada Tournament of Champions.

A Kelowna duo came second in a Tournament of Champions golf event hosted in Oliver.

The team competition was hosted at Fairview Mountain Golf Club on Monday, May 26.

Each squad consisted of a club professional and a current club champion, or other designated amateur from their facility. The competition was an 18-hole best ball format, and 36 teams competed, with monetary prizes available to the top 18.

The duo of Lindsay Bernakevitch and Craig Doell of the Victoria Golf Club came first, with a -9 gross 63 to win $1,250.

Kelowna Golf and Country Club's Rob Anderson and Mike Byland took second, one back with a gross 64 to collect $1,000.

Three other Kelowna teams finished in the top 20. Shadow Ridge Golf Club's Mark Kitts and Randy Takenaka finished sixth, Sunset Ranch's Keith Martin and Trong Tran 11th, Okanagan Golf Club's Lee Ranger and Ben Proskiw 12th and Tower Ranch's Miles Palahniuk and Gord Brown 16th. 

Vernon Golf and Country Club's Adam Blair and Jason Bilodeau finished 27th, shooting an even 72.
