It may be a little early in the 2025 season to be talking about streaks, but the Okanagan Sun, at 2 and 0, find themselves in familiar territory as they prepare to host the PG Kodiaks Saturday (Aug. 2) at the Apple Bowl.
The defending BCFC champions are in the same position they were last year, two straight wins heading into game three. The similarity stops there.
The Sun were in two tight battles to open the 2024 season. Game one was a 22-15 win over Langley, and the following week a 31-24 win over the Vancouver Island Raiders. In the first two games, the Sun scored 53 points to 39 against.
This year it香蕉视频直播檚 all about a dominating defence that has shut out the opposition. Offensively, the Sun has put up 81 points while allowing zero points in two games.
Defensively, the Sun has three BC Football Conference (BCFC) statistics leaders. Linebacker Phil Palmarin is tied for the lead in solo tackles with 11, defensive lineman JaQuintis Summers is the top sack man with three, and defensive back Tariq Brown and Palmarin are tied for the lead with two interceptions each.
The Sun defence will once again be put to the test with the visiting Prince George Kodiaks offence, who last week downed the winless Kamloops Broncos 33-13. Quarterback Sawyer Thiessen directed the offensive charge with 344 yards of net offence, 146 yards along the ground, and 208 through the air.
Kodiaks go-to-guy in the backfield is running back Gavin Halvorson who carried the ball 19 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
The Thiessen-led air attack featured eight different receivers. Ben Fehr had three receptions for 42 yards, Carson Briere hauled in two passes for 36 yards and one touchdown, and Matthew Sturgess collected two passes for 44 yards.
The Kodiaks defence did their share of damage, picking off three Kamloops passes with linebacker Caiden Crow leading with five solo tackles, one assist, one special teams tackle, one pass knockdown, and one interception.
In a similar story to last season, the Sun, after two games, boasts the leading rusher in the BCFC. Running back Gerren Hardisty has 194 yards and is number one in rushing touchdowns with four and is tied for the lead in points and touchdowns scored.
Quarterback Liam Kroeger has a .604 per cent passing completion, with 29 of 48 for 454 yards and two touchdowns, and one interception. Kroeger香蕉视频直播檚 favourite target in the first two games has been wide receiver Jordayne Falconer with seven receptions for 171 yards.
Kick-off for Saturday's game is 7 p.m.
It will be streamed on and is a Telus Game of the Week, available to all Telus customers on Channel 1981. The game can also be heard on AM1150 with Stephen Keppler and Jason Casey.
The highly popular Kid香蕉视频直播檚 Zone is back for the game with two bouncy castles.
