Shuswap Masters swimmers snag hardware at provincial championships

Former Blind Bay resident sets another Canadian record

The Salmon Arm Waves Masters swim club sent eight athletes to the annual BC Provincial Championships, held April 25-27.

This year香蕉视频直播檚 event was hosted by the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre. (In September, Nanaimo will be host to this year香蕉视频直播檚 55+ BC Games.)

In Masters swimming, racers competed by gender in five-year age group categories.

Despite a relatively small roster, the Waves finished 11th out of 22 clubs. The team brought home 34 podium medals, led by veteran Theo Manley (seven golds) and 21 year-old Leo Konge (six golds).

This year香蕉视频直播檚 team also had a family focus, including father-son duo Scott and Torrey McKee, as well as three generations from the Quilty family: Sharon, Nadine and Ethan.

Linda MacPherson, a former Blind Bay resident now competing with the Nanaimo Ebbtides, set another new Canadian record in the gruelling 1,500m freestyle.

Masters Nationals will be held in Saskatoon in late May. The Waves continue to practice five times weekly through June at the SASCU Rec Centre, and new members of all levels are welcome. For more information, visit salmonarmwaves.ca.
