Around 350 people wearing unique costumes marched down the historic KVR Trail on Saturday morning (June 7) to mark another edition of the popular Penticton Beer Run.
The run, which featured tastings from breweries across the South Okanagan along a multi-kilometre route, returned for its ninth year. Partial proceeds from the event went toward local kids' camp programs, said Hoodoo Adventures owner Lyndie Hill.
"People look forward to it every year," said Hill, whose business hosts the event. "It's a must-do."
The run typically happens in October, during Penticton Beer Week, but with the city and Hoodoo Adventures set to host the 2025 Adventure Racing World Championship this fall, the event was moved to June.
Hill says beer run festivities in 2026 will return in October, which will mark the event's 10th anniversary.
"We hope to make it a big deal," Hill said about next year's event. "The reason we started it was to follow our passion, get kids outside, and promote the breweries and tourism scene. There's so many wins to it."
Saturday's event kicked off at Abandoned Rail Brewing as early as 9 a.m. Dozens of teams started their journeys at the location, before walking or running along the KVR Trail en route to local breweries and eateries.
The largest team to participate in the event had 15 people, Hill said.
"It's such a good cause for us to put some money back into our kids' program and this seemed like a really fun way to do it," she added.
An after-party at the Penticton Yacht Club and Marina Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥” featuring a DJ, outdoor games, a large foosball table, food and drinks Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥” was also scheduled for this year's event.
Hill is inviting people of all ages to stop by the party until 8 p.m. and support the cause. The yacht club is located at 293 Marina Way.
"It's open to everybody," Hill said. "Kids, adults, families... you didn't have to do the beer run to go. There's no ticket cost, just come celebrate with us."
