Salmon Arm's Hazel Brooks revisited her high school on Wednesday for a prestigious honour.
On May 7,the Salmon Arm Secondary graduate was presented with the 2024 Governor General's Academic Medal. Given to the top academic student overall at each school, the medals were created in 1873 to encourage academic excellence.
Brooks is currently studying sciences at Simon Fraser University, with her sights set on a future career in the medical field.
"This summer, Hazel will be returning to Salmon Arm to work and reconnect with her community," reads a School District 83 media release. "Inspired by her younger brother Oliver, who lives with complex healthcare needs, Hazel is passionate about improving medical services in rural areas.
