Canucks forward lifts team to 3-2 overtime win in game three, Abbotsford can eliminate Colorado on Friday

The Canucks celebrate Linus Karlsson's overtime winner on Wednesday (May 21).

The most prolific offensive player in the history of the Abbotsford Canucks can add another accolade to his AHL resume.

Linus Karlsson helped the Canucks complete an impressive comeback and scored the overtime winner in the longest game in team history, as Abbotsford escaped the Blue Arena with a 3-2 overtime win in game three on Wednesday (April 21).

While line mates Sammy Blais and Ty Mueller barrelled into the offensive zone deep and got the puck loose, Karlsson set up shop in his office in front of the net and banged home the winning goal at 18:47 of the first overtime period.

Karlsson, the team's all-time leader in regular season goals and points, found another way to write himself into the team's record books.

Wednesday's game marked the longest game in club history, eclipsing the previous record set back on April 26, 2023 in the Pacific Division semifinal against the Calgary Wranglers.

Game three also saw the Canucks battle back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to earn the win. Abbotsford now leads the best-of-five series 2-1 and can close out the series in game four on Friday (April 23).

But like so many games for the Canucks in this memorable playoff run, the team had a poor start and fell behind 1-0 just 4:22 into the game. John Ludvig trickled a shot through the legs of Arturs Silovs and that goal stood until 10:27 when Canucks defenceman Victor Mancini tied the game at one. Colorado held the 13-12 shots edge in the first.

Colorado regained the lead at 19:00 of the second period after capitalizing on a Canucks turnover and entered the third period up 2-1.

The third period saw the Canucks crank up the intensity offensively and it finally paid off when forward Max Sasson beat Eagles goalie Trent Miner at 10:45. Abbotsford also had a late power play, but were unable to connect and the game was destined for overtime.

The Canucks had another power play in the extra frame, but again were unsuccessful and Silovs was forced to make several key saves to keep the game going. Abbotsford's fore checking pressure eventually broke the Eagles when Blais and Mueller got the puck free to a waiting Karlsson, who made history with the goal.

Colorado out shot Abbotsford 37-33 in the game and Lekkerimaki led all Canucks with two points. Chase Wouters and Blais both recorded a team-high five shots. Eagles forward Jayson Megna led all players with eight shots on goal. Lekkerimaki was also a tea,-best +2. Silovs made 35 saves for his seventh 2025 Calder Cup playoffs win and he was excellent in the third and overtime.

Another continuing story is the perfection that is the Canucks penalty kill. Abbotsford has not allowed a power play goal in the playoffs and killed off all 29 penalties they've been assessed. They were again a perfect 3/3 on Wednesday.

The game also featured the return of defenceman Christian Wolanin from injury and forward Danila Klimovich. Wolanin recorded three shots and Klimovich had one shot.

The teams meet again in Colorado on Friday at 6:05 p.m. A win and Abbotsford advances to the Western Conference final. A loss and the two teams meet again for a do-or-die game five on Memorial Day Monday (May 26) at 2:05 p.m.
