The Carr's Landing Fire Department is in need of new members.

Lake Country's Station 81 held a pancake breakfast open house on Aug. 10 to show off the hall and equipment to the community in hopes of igniting a spark in people to join the team.

Station Captain Bruce Boechler has been fighting fires in Lake Country for 25 years and is eager to train up some new paid-on-call members.

No experience is necessary, Boechler said, adding that a training wage is paid while new recruits learn how to do the job. New recruits do, however, need a clean driving record and will undergo a criminal record check.

"If there's a call out, we get paid for two hours," Boechler explained. "Beyond the two hours, it's an hourly pay."

The fire hall currently has 12 members with a capacity for 15.

Those interested in joining Lake Country Fire can learn more on the district's website or drop in at the main fire hall and chat with staff. Information sessions will be held at Station 71 on Okanagan Centre Road E on Aug. 21 and 27 at 7 p.m.

"It's a great bunch of people. We do a lot of fun things together outside of the fire hall... Plus, you can give back to your community," Boechler said about why people should join. "It's important to look after your community."
