Johan Giesbrecht Friesen, the suspect in a shooting at The Rise in Vernon, had his bail hearing adjourned Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The suspect in an alleged shooting at The Rise in Vernon has had his bail hearing delayed.

Johan Giesbrecht Friesen, born in 1992, faces charges of unlawfully discharging a firearm, occupying a vehicle while knowing a firearm was present, and having a prohibited firearm with ammunition.

The date of Friesen's alleged offences is listed in court records as May 14, the same day police received a report of a around 11:30 p.m.

Friesen was arrested in Falkland the following day.

"The investigation has determined that the incident stemmed from an earlier assault that took place between a man and woman in a vehicle while parked at a pullout on the road," RCMP media relations officer Const. Chris Terleski said at the time.

"Following the altercation, a male suspect returned to the scene and allegedly fired a weapon several times."

Police did not report any injuries in the shooting.

Friesen was in Kamloops provincial court on Wednesday for a bail hearing, but the matter was adjourned to June 3, according to the BC Prosecution Service, which could not say why the bail hearing was delayed.

Friesen remains in custody.

Friesen faces an additional charge of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, an offence alleged to have taken place on March 25, according to court records.
