Heavy rain is on the horizon for parts of the South Cariboo and North Okanagan.
A special weather statement issued by Environment Canada on Wednesday morning (July 9) confirms heavy rain is expected in the two regions throughout the day and into Thursday morning.
Every town and city under the statement can expect 10-20 mm of rain with winds of 20 km/h and gusts up to 40 km/h. Revelstoke could experience up to 25 mm of rain.
Additionally, there is a risk of thunderstorms "embedded" in the heavy rain, which could enhance local rainfall amounts, according to the government weather agency.
The rain could result in localized flooding, an increased risk in landslides, and visibility reduction.
"Heavy rain could develop along a front passing through the area today," said Environment Canada. "Current weather model guidance is suggesting locally heavy rainfall amounts, however, there remains some uncertainty as to the exact locations and rainfall totals.
In the event heavy rainfall materializes over sensitive areas such as burn scars, there is a heightened risk of localized flooding and debris flows."
