The Board of Education for Central Okanagan Public Schools is reiterating that student and staff safety are their top priorities, after an issue at a track meet earlier this month regarding a childÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s gender.

It released a statement on June 16 saying that it remains committed to providing Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥œsafe and inclusive spaces to learn and work.

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥œInclusion is key because each learner must have the opportunity to be a child, follow their dreams, and ultimately succeed in their individual educational pursuits.

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥œOur district policies against bullying, harassment, and discrimination align with the BC Human Rights Code so that people can learn and work without fear of discrimination based on their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other aspect of their individual identity.Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥

The release added that the board does not condone any political agendas, movements, or groups that are increasingly spreading intolerance and misinformation.

Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥œWhile everyone is entitled to hold their own views, no one is entitled to express views or make false statements that defame, harass, or threaten our students or staff. We continue to strive to build a caring community, which includes anyone that is 2SLGBTQIA+.Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥

Capital News has reached out to the boardÏ㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥™s chairperson for comment.
