Keremeos' newest engine finally gets ceremonial push-in

The engine arrived during COVID-19 and the ceremony couldn't be held safely

After a four-year delay, Keremeos' newest fire engine had its official ceremonial push-in.

The Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department wrapped up its June 28 open house with the ceremony, which for most departments usually follows shortly after the arrival of a new engine.

However, when the new engine arrived in 2021, the department had been keeping COVID-19 in mind and put the ceremony off.

"It was a little bit overdue," said Fire Chief Jordy Bosscha.

After the new engine was pushed in, the firefighters also gave their vintage engine its own push-in.

The ceremonies wrapped up the open house, which saw a solid turnout and successful fundraising for the department.

"We had some silent auctions and a lot of donations from local businesses and that raised a little bit of money for us," said Bosscha.

The funds go to support the department's gear as they also work towards getting a new fire hall.
