Shuswap marine search and rescue crews were in the right place at the right time when Wednesday night's storm blew in.

The Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue (RCMSAR) Shuswap Station 106 were already at the rescue base for their regularly scheduled meeting when the storm hit on July 16, with Environment Canada having issued a special weather statement for winds up to 70 km/h. Though it advised boaters to use caution, RCMSAR crews were still called out on Shuswap Lake.

"Last night was pretty busy," station leader Tamara Lansing confirmed. "But it was a very quick response time since we were already there."

She added they were tasked out by the RCMP for "multiple boat accidents." That included one at Blind Bay for a boat struggling to get back to shore, but the crew was stood down from that as another vessel was able to help them off the water.

The RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services also had RCMSAR respond to several calls by Marble Point, including two separate houseboats that were grounded and taking on water.

"The individuals were able to take cover in bathrooms at Marble. We were able to get both parties aboard our vessel Ï㽶ÊÓƵֱ²¥“ four people in total, and three dogs," Lansing said. "All were brought back to the base with no injuries.

She added that in addition to their calls, the night was "busy all around" for emergency responders.
