Original story

The Scatchard Mountain wildfire west of Chase is now under control.

In addition to the downgraded status of the fire, located on Neskonith band land, the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reports the blaze has also decreased in size, from 35 to 33.4 hectares.

As of Friday morning, July 4, evacuation alerts remained in effect, one issued by the Neskonlith and another by the Thompson Nicola Regional District.

The human-caused fire began Monday afternoon, June 30, and reached 35 hectares that night. Chase Fire Rescue and BCWS crews were quick to respond, with the latter deploying three initial attack crews, two helicopters and fixed-wing air support including skimmer planes.

Fire suppression efforts continued throughout the week, with 38 BCWS personnel continuing mop up efforts on July 3. No homes were reported to have been lost in the fire.

Environment Canada's seven-day forecast for Salmon Arm and area shows warmer temperatures ahead, potentially peaking at 35 C on Tuesday, July 8.
