The Interior Wild, with players from North Okanagan, Kelowna, and Penticton, became the first all-female team from the Interior to attend and medal at the provincial minor lacrosse championships. The Wild won silver in Nanaimo, falling 7-3 to the Mission Sasquatch in the final.

Sasquatch are rarely seen.

But don't tell that to the Interior Wild U15 female lacrosse team. They saw plenty of Sasquatch on Vancouver Island.

Still, it was a historic weekend for the Wild, as the first-ever all-female team from north of Hope to attend B.C. Minor Lacrosse championships became the first Interior female team to bring home a provincial medal.

The Wild won silver, losing the championship game to the Mission Sasquatch 7-3. The Sasquatch was the only team to defeat the Interior ladies at the provincials, held July 11-13 in Nanaimo. Mission won the round-robin contest, 4-1.

There were six teams competing for the provincial U15B championship, including the Interior, whose lineup included players from Penticton, Kelowna, and the North Okanagan trio of Keziah Marchand, Sierra Larose, and Maria McGorman.

The Wild began the B.C. tournament with a 7-6 win over the Burnaby Lakers/New Westminster Salmonbellies team, then knocked off the Langley Thunder 7-4, before falling to Mission.

The Interior squad advanced to the final with a 7-4 win over Burnaby/New West.

Sophie Heng of Kelowna was chosen the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
