Cassandra Brown was feeling the silver in Amsterdam.
The Vernon native competed with Canada's 3x3 FIBA basketball team over the May long weekend, helping the team to a silver medal at the Women's Series event.
In 3x3 play, teams play a 10-minute game, with the winner decided with the most points after the time expires, or the first to reach 21 points (with baskets worth one point each, two for those from beyond the arc).
Canada won their first four matches en route to the finals, including dominant victories against Ireland (21-8) and Poland in the semifinals (21-13).
In the final, Canada lost a tough 20-11 decision to the host Netherlands. Throughout the tournament, Brown contributed 17 total points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. Her teammate, Paige Crozon led the way for the red and white, finishing third in total points, with 29.
The team will now shift their focus to series stops in Vienna, Austria (June 12-14) and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (June 18-19) before the FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Ulaanbaatar from June 23-29.
The six-foot-two-inch Brown has a decade-long career in basketball after graduating from the University of Portland in 2015. She most recently played for the Mainland Pouakai of the Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa League and was a rostered member of the 2024 Paris Olympics Canadian 3x3 team.
