West Kelowna four-plex suffers significant damage from fire, cat saved

The fire started just after 8 a.m.

A morning fire caused "extensive damage" to a four-unit duplex in West Kelowna on Thursday.

Just after 8 a.m. on May 29, West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR) received reports of a structure fire in the 1700 Boucherie Road.

Upon arrival, crews found "heavy fire conditions", forcing them to attack the blaze from the outside before an interior fire attack.

All residents and pets were able to escape the building, with one person suffering minor smoke-related injuries. Fire crews also saved a cat that remained in the building.

As a result of the fire, part of the roof fell onto the structure, which was sustained a great amount of damage.

The fire is under investigation but is not considered suspicious.

WKFR responded with five engines, a tender, an utility, three safeties and a command unit. Westbank First Nation Bylaw, West Kelowna RCMP, BC Ambulance, ESS, Fortis BC, and BC Hydro all also attended the scene.
