It's hard to beat a full day of golf under any circumstances, but adding support for a meaningful cause made this year's Golfathon even more special for a trio of Vernon golf professionals.
The three dedicated golfers from Vernon Golf and Country Club completed a total of 162 holes in a single day and raised $5,145 for the ALS Society of BC during the 20th annual PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS last month.
Golf operations manager Bradlee Jones, head golf professional Brooks Jones and teaching professional Myles Johnson each demonstrated their commitment by playing 54 holes. Their marathon golf session began as the sun came up at 4:45 a.m. July 3 under mostly clear skies and with temperatures reaching a comfortable 24 C.
A notable highlight of the day was the remarkable 26 birdies the team collectively made throughout their extensive play.
"Thank you to our membership at the VGCC for generous donations to support this cause," said Jones, underscoring the vital community involvement. 2025 marks the third consecutive year Vernon Golf and Country Club has supported the Golfathon, having raised over $16,000 to date.
Since its inception, Golfathon for ALS has raised more than $3 million, directly benefiting registered patient programs and services that provide essential support, including a psychological treatment program, Camp Alohi Lani summer camp for children affected by ALS, and vital equipment to enhance patients' quality of life through the Robert R. Heinrich Equipment Loan Program.

They have a busy facility so being able to take on the program for the last three years is significant and it speaks to their commitment of wanting to give back."
This year's Golfathon is presented by the not-for-profit Pacific Blue Cross Foundation.
The ALS Society of BC expressed thanks to the PGA of BC, which has made the Golfathon a cornerstone fundraising event for two decades.
Vernon Golf and Contry Club was also thanked, including its staff, members, volunteers and donors who made the event a success.
The Golfathon for ALS has a lofty goal of raising $250,000 through more than 30 events, taking place at various B.C. golf courses. All funds raised in B.C. will stay within the province, directly benefitting ALS patients and their families.
Though the Vernon event has concluded, the chance to contribute is still here. Donations are still being accepted online until the end of the year. So far, more than $182,000 has been raised towards the quarter-million goal.
