The wildfire that sparked Saturday south of Merritt is now classified as held, meaning it is projected to remain within its current perimeter of 0.1 hectares.
The projection by BC Wildfire Service is based on fuel, weather conditions and resource availability. The fire was classified as held just after 4:30 p.m. Aug. 2.
Meanwhile, another spot-sized wildfire has sparked, this one about 50 kilometres northeast of Merritt and east of the Coquihalla Highway. The fire is classified as out of control and is 0.009 hectares in size.
Lightning is the suspected cause of the new wildfire.
There are currently no area restrictions, evacuation orders or alerts associated with the new fire, according to BC Wildfire Service.

A wildfire has ignited south of Merritt Saturday afternoon.
BC Wildfire Service reports the fire is 0.1 hectares in size, or 1,000 square metres.
The fire was sparked Aug. 2 and is believed to have been caused by lightning.
The wildfire is in a remote area west of Highway 5A. It is classified as out of control, meaning it is expected to spread beyond its current perimeter.
The precise location of the wildfire is listed by BC Wildfire as Davis Lake.
