Quarterback Chris Streveler passed for 246 yards and three touchdowns, leading the host Winnipeg Blue Bombers to a 34-20 win over the B.C. Lions Thursday night at Princess Auto Stadium.
Running back Matthew Peterson added 107 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Bombers (1-0), who also got touchdowns from Nick Demski (2) and Keric Wheatfall. Sergio Castillo booted two field goals and three converts and punter Jamieson Sheahan added a single.
QB Nathan Rourke was 12-for-27 for 249 yards and a TD for the Lions (1-1) before leaving in the fourth quarter with an injury. Rourke also rushed for 57 yards and another major. Receiver Keon Hatcher had 127 yards receiving and B.C.Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥™s other touchdown, while Sean Whyte kicked two field goals and two converts.

On WinnipegÏã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥™s opening drive, Brady Oliveira, the CFLÏã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥™s leading rusher a year ago, broke a 43-yard run, but left shortly thereafter with in injury and did not return. He was replaced by Peterson.
The Bombers opened the scoring when Streveler found Dempsey on a long pass for a TD, with CastilloÏã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥™s convert making it 7-0.
Midway through the quarter, a Rourke pass slipped through the hands of receiver Justin McInnis and was picked off by Marquise Bridges, setting the Bombers up for a 49-yard Castillo field goal to make it 10-0.
A 20-yard field goal by Whyte, the most accurate kicker in the history of the league, made it 10-3.
In the second quarter, Peterson scored his first career TD at 7:25, with Castillo converting to make it 17-3.
Rourke was under siege all night, completing just one of his first 10 passes.
SheahanÏã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥™s punt single made it 18-3 before the Lions answered back. Rourke connected with Ayden Eberhardt on a 49-yard pass and then . WhyteÏã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥™s conversion made it 18-10 at the half.
After the break, the Bombers moved ahead 25-10 on an impressive 108-yard drive, that saw Streveler go 4-for-4 for 101 yards and ended with a Wheatfall TD.
The Lions took all of one play to respond, with Rourke hooking up with Hatcher for a 77-yard TD to pull back within eight.
Castillo and Whyte traded field goals and it was 28-20 after three quarters.
Winnipeg rounded out the scoring early in the third, when Streveler found Demski deep in the corner of the end zone.
Late in the fourth, an uncomfortable looking Rourke was replaced by Jeremiah Masoli.
The teams meet again June 21 (4 p.m.) at B.C. Place.
NOTES: The Bombers should have starting QB Zach Collaros back for the rematch, after he missed the opener due to a suspensionÏã½¶ÊÓÆµÖ±²¥¦ The Bombers won the 2024 season series, 2-1, which included a shutout in Week 9.
