Wind whips up power outage for thousands in Okanagan

Large outage in Okanagan Landing area south to Lake Country for more than 2,000

More than 2,000 Vernon and Lake Country customers are without power Wednesday evening, July 16.

More than 2,000 Vernon and Lake Country residents are without power following a wicked windstorm Wednesday evening.

BC Hydro reports power is off for 2,111 customers in the region.

The cause is under investigation and a crew has been assigned.

Closer to Silver Star Mountain another 1,247 residents are in the dark between Keddleston and the mountain resort.

North of Lumby, 333 customers are without power south-east of Lumby-Mabel Lake Road.

In Cherryville, a tree down across wires has left 832 residents in the dark east of Lumby Mabel Lake Road.

In Armstrong, a smaller outage is caused by a tree across wires south of McLeod Road, east of Highway 97A and north of Powerhouse Road, impacting 55 customers.

Another 64 Armstrong residents are in the dark north of Marshall Road and west of Stepney Road. There are a couple more ourages east of the Hullcar area.

There are a few small spot outages in the Foothills area.

Remaining residents with power may notice flickering of lights as the windstorm continues.
